Sweet - British glam rock band. Together with the bands Slade, T. Rex, Queen and singer Gary Glitter they were one of the most popular performers of the British music scene in the 1970s. The band was founded in 1968 under the name Sweetshop by singer Brian Connolly, drummer Mick Tucker, bassist Steve Priest and guitarist Frank Torpey. Guitarist Andy Scott joined the band in 1970, just before the band's name was shortened to Sweet and then the band's most famous decade began. The band had support in two composers, Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, with whom the band collaborated between 1971 and 1974 through a contract with RCA Records. From them comes both big hits bubblegum of the pop season “Funny Funny” (1971) and the successful glam rock singles “Block Buster!” (1973), which conquered the UK Singles Chart, “Hell Raiser” (1973), “ The Ballroom Blitz '(1973) and' Teenage Rampage '(1974).
